Candle Safety Fundamentals

Candles can start fires.

Before burning, remove all packaging and labels.

Always keep burning candles visible.

Never light a candle on or near flammable materials.

Candles should be kept away from children, pets, soft furnishings, and flammable materials.

Before each burning, trim the candle wick to 1/4 inch.

Place the candle holder on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

Always keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, and debris.

Candles should be kept away from draughts, vents, ceiling fans, and air currents.

Never burn for more than 4 hours at a time.

When only 1/4 of the wax remains, stop using it.

Extinguish a candle if it smokes, flickers, or has an excessively high flame.

If water gets on the candle’s surface, make sure it’s completely dry before lighting it, as water causes the flame to spark and crackle.

A candle should never be used as a night light.
